Teen SummerREAD Volunteers Wanted

            The Mission Viejo Library is looking for teens age 13-18 to help with SummerREAD. Volunteers are needed to fill positions from June 24 to August 5, 2010. The registration deadline is May 30, 2010 or when 60 applications have been received by the Youth Reference Desk. Mega-bestselling author, Meg Cabot, visits Mission Viejo on April 22

            Readers of all ages are invited to meet New York Times bestselling author Meg Cabot on the evening of Thursday, April 22.
           
This free event, sponsored by the Friends of the Mission Viejo Library, starts at 7 p.m. in the Sycamore Room of the Norman P. Murray Community and Senior Center. Meg will sign books purchased at the event.
            Hailed as “chick-lit royalty” by Newsweek, Meg Cabot is the author over 40 books for kids, teens, and adults. Her most notable series, The Princess Diaries, is published in over 38 countries and was made into two hit movies by Disney. Meg’s books have sold more than 15 million copies worldwide. Her latest series for kids, Allie Finkle’s Rules for Girls, and an edgy new series for teens, Airhead, are currently being published by Scholastic, the world’s largest publisher of children’s books. Meg’s books for adults include the Heather Wells mystery series, Queen of Babble, and an upcoming modern-day Dracula sequel, Insatiable.

High school students invited to take free college prep test at Mission Viejo Library

            High school students are invited to take a free practice college admissions test at the Mission Viejo Library on March 21.  The practice SAT test is sponsored by Kaplan, a test preparation company that has helped students achieve academic excellence for more than 70 years. 
            The SAT test will be administered from noon to 4 p.m. in the Friends Community Room at 100 Civic Center.  Participants should bring a #2 pencil and calculator.  Register for the practice test at
www.kaptest.com/practicetest and enter the event code: SKOC0039.
            Students can evaluate their test results and learn how to improve their score by attending a follow-up Scoreback Night/Test Strategies Workshop on Thursday, March 25. The workshop is from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. in the Saddleback Room at Mission Viejo City Hall, 200 Civic Center.
